First International Conference on the Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment

The sustainable conservation and regeneration of historic built environment constitute crucial elements in the construction of urban and rural living environments, and are also key drivers for advancing the high-quality development of living environments. Properly recognizing the value of cultural heritage, while respecting its intrinsic nature and foundational conservation principles, and leveraging its social, cultural, and economic significance within the built environment is a significant topic in the sustainable conservation and regeneration of historic built environments. Xi’an Jiaotong University and Politecnico di Milano have jointly convened the “First International Conference on the Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment in Urban and Rural Areas” warmly welcoming experts and scholars engaged in research and practice related to cultural heritage and built environments to participate. The initiative focuses on the significance of cultural heritage in defining economic processes geared towards the revitalization of rural villages and historically-rooted urban areas, as well as the revitalization of local communities.

The event is supported by Vernacular Architecture Branch of Architectural Society in of China, UNESCO Asian Heritage Management Institute, Heritage Research Institute of the University of Liverpool, Silk Road University Consortium Heritage Sub-Consortium.

From 12 to 14 June 2025, the symposium will offer researchers, scholars, heritage site managers, and specialists in historic built environments the opportunity to present their work and research through oral presentations.

  1. Submitted papers should be written in English.
  2. All manuscripts should be original and unpublished. Papers need to be relevant to the theme, well-supported by evidence, practical, and innovative.
  3. Submitted articles will be evaluated by review experts. The evaluation criteria include originality, technical or research content and depth, relevance to the conference theme, contribution, and readability.
  4. The abstract should be within 350-500 words, and the full text length is generally between 8-12 pages, not less than 8 pages, including formulas and charts, references and appendices.
  5. Authors can check for plagiarism through the query system, and the plagiarism rate must not exceed 20%.
  6. If your article is accepted, we will notify you by email.

After screening by the conference organizing committee, the selected papers will be included in the conference proceedings (to be published by Springer), and excellent papers have the opportunity to be included in the book “Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment” (to be published by Springer).

The paper included in the book “Sustainable Conservation and Regeneration of Historic Built Environment” needs to be written in English, closely focusing on the sub-topics, and has good innovation and scientific level.
