From academic studies in Milano to professional career in China
On Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29, Zhou Ruizhe and Yang Junbo, alumni of the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and founders of the architecture firm Modum Atelier, visited XJTU-POLIMI Joint School and took part in the teaching activities of the Architectural Design 2 course.
During the Wednesday afternoon classroom session, they met with the students, discussing the ongoing design exercise and sharing their professional experience following their studies at Politecnico di Milano.
The day concluded with a joint public lecture with the Architectural Design 4 course, held at the Milan Building Auditorium, during which the two architects highlighted how their education in Italy played a crucial role in shaping their design and professional identity within the Chinese market.
After receiving multiple awards and recognitions, their firm—based in Nanjing and Chengdu—is now engaged in various projects across China, where they apply the principles learned and tested during their years at Politecnico di Milano. The studio presents itself as one of the contemporary interpreters of Chinese architectural tradition.
On Thursday morning, during an interview curated by Prof Gerardo Semprebon, Zhou Ruizhe and Yang Junbo reflected on the importance of transnational education as a valuable opportunity for personal growth and development.
