Second Field Visit of the Joint Lab to Baishe Village

On Saturday, June 7, researchers Zachary Mark Jones, Gerardo Semprebon, and Zhao Yiqing—representatives of the Sino-Italian Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Urban and Rural Heritage Conservation and Regeneration, promoted by XJTU and Polimi—carried out a second field visit to Baishe Village.

During the day, the delegation met with the Head of Communication and Academic Initiatives of Sanyan County to further explore local dynamics and gather valuable data to support the ongoing research activities.

The interviews brought to light several political initiatives and planning tools implemented by local authorities to foster the regeneration of the village, as well as the challenges faced by administrations at different levels in their efforts to revive the local economy.

The site visit also led to the identification of areas of significant historical, cultural, and architectural value, which will serve as focal points for future pilot projects. Baishe Village continues to stand out as a key context for developing innovative approaches to the conservation and revitalization of rural built heritage.

This visit marks another step forward in international academic cooperation aimed at integrating scientific research, heritage preservation practices, and sustainable development strategies for rural and inland areas.
