Study Tour “Heritage and Contemporary Architecture in Italy”
On July 9th 2024 a group of 19 students of the Joint School, Architecture program, together with 2 professors from XJTU landed in Milano to take part in a study tour during which they visited Milano, Como, Mantova, Verona, Vicenza and Sabbioneta.
The tour was organized and coordinated by the Mantova Campus of Polimi, which is also home to the UNESCO Chair for Architectural Preservation and Planning in World Heritage Cities.
The students first stayed in Milano and then Mantova, moving to the other cities during daily trips.
The study tour included:
- Guided tour to buildings selected by Polimi professors and dating from the 12th to the 21st century
- A workshop entitled “Architectural Design and History” that took place in Mantova and during which students developed a urban regeneration project
The students were actively involved in the study tour even before leaving China, when they were asked to carry out researches about the buildings they were going to visit and their architects. Their work took the form of a booklet that the students will keep as a memory of their first trip to Italy.
