The collaboration between Politecnico di Milano and Xi’an Jiaotong University also extends to research, through joint projects, scientific activities, publications, conferences and initiatives involving faculty members, researchers and PhD candidates from both universities.
The main shared research areas include:
- Heritage, architecture and territorial engineering, with particular attention to sustainable urban planning, the conservation of historical and environmental heritage, smart cities and smart buildings;
- Clean energy and environment, with activities focused on decarbonisation, green technologies, renewable energy sources and smart grids.
An important area of collaboration is represented by the Sino-Italian Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Urban and Rural Heritage Conservation and Regeneration, established in 2024, which promotes interdisciplinary research and experimentation on conservation, sustainable regeneration and technological innovation applied to urban and rural heritage.
The section also brings together the main scientific publications, conferences and joint research initiatives, providing an overview of the evolution of the scientific collaboration between the two universities.
